Privacy policy

openARTlas is a privacy-light travel tool. It has no account system, no analytics tracker, and no third-party advertising tracker in this build.

Location

Location is optional. The browser permission sheet appears only after the user taps Use my location. Coordinates stay in session storage for nearby ranking. Live nearby discovery sends approximate coordinate and radius only after user action. Coordinates are not written to first-party cookies.

Ratings

User star ratings are sent to the openARTlas ratings endpoint and stored on the server as venue id, rating value, timestamp, and a pseudonymous hash. The app does not store IP address or user agent as plain text in the rating table.

Cookies and storage

• oal_location_choice_v33: first-party startup preference. It does not store coordinates.
• openartlasLocation: session storage for latitude, longitude, approximate accuracy, and timestamp.
• Image cache: local cache for open-image lookup results.

External services

OpenStreetMap Overpass, OpenFreeMap, MapLibre, Wikimedia Commons, UNESCO DataHub during scheduled refresh, Google Maps URLs, Tripadvisor search links, GitHub workflows, and optional Cloudflare Pages Functions or a compatible server endpoint may process technical requests needed to provide the service.

Advertising

The sponsor window is direct sold and non-personalized by default. Programmatic advertising stays disabled until consent tooling, vendor approvals, and legal review are complete.

Rights

Users can refuse location, clear location inside the app, remove browser storage, and contact the controller for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability where applicable.
